GED duration in Pakistan: how long each part takes
'Duration' means three different things for the GED — how long each exam runs, how long the whole journey takes, and a separate timing rule for equivalence. Here's all three, clearly.
1. How long each exam takes
Each of the four subjects is a separate, timed, computer-based exam:
- Reasoning Through Language Arts — about 150 minutes, including a 45-minute written essay and a short break.
- Mathematical Reasoning — about 115 minutes, with a brief break between its two parts.
- Science — about 90 minutes, no break.
- Social Studies — about 70 minutes, no break.

2. How long the whole journey takes
Because the GED is readiness-paced, there's no fixed length. You prepare for and clear each subject when you're ready, so many students finish comfortably inside two years — some faster. 3. The two-year timing rule (recognition, not study)
Separately from how long you study, local IBCC HSSC equivalence requires a minimum two-year gap between your SSC/equivalent and your GED diploma. This is a recognition rule, not a measure of how long the GED "takes," and it doesn't apply if you're studying abroad (though no local equivalence is issued in that case). Frequently asked questions
