Most institutes offer either the Pearson BTEC or the GED, so their "comparison" is really a pitch for the one they sell. KINDL runs both — the Pearson BTEC Level 3 through Kindl TEC, and the GED through Kindl Mass — which means we have no reason to steer you. Here's the genuinely balanced comparison.
The core difference in one line
The GED is a high-school-equivalency credential you earn by passing four exams when you're ready. The Pearson BTEC Level 3 is a taught, coursework-based qualification with subject pathways, assessed across a programme. One is a test you prepare for; the other is a course you complete.

Recognition: both go through the IBCC, differently
Both credentials can be equated by the IBCC to HSSC (Humanities Group), but the mechanism differs. The Pearson BTEC route depends on completing 18 units at Level 3. The GED route depends on the two-year-gap and local-vs-abroad rules. Neither should be simplified to "= Intermediate" — the conditions are where students get caught out, so read the specific page for whichever you're leaning toward.
Two different things share a name — don't confuse them
When comparing the BTEC, make sure you mean the Pearson BTEC (the UK qualification Kindl TEC offers), not the unrelated local "BTEC Islamabad" body, which carries no equivalence. The GED has no such name collision. See our recognition explainer for the distinction.
Who each one suits
Choose the Pearson BTEC if your child does better with continuous, project-based assessment; wants a defined subject pathway (Business or Creative Digital Media Production); and values a taught, portfolio-building experience. Choose the GED if speed and flexibility matter most; if your child is self-directed and prefers to prepare and sit exams at their own pace; or if they left formal schooling and want a credible route back in.
